I See Dead Celebrities PDF Print E-mail

TombstoneThe new fad for celebrities in Hollywood this year seems to be to land their face in an obituary. Eighty-five stars kicked the bucket this year as of September 27th (that's about four celebs a day!).

The most famous of all eighty-five (and the one that had the most impact on the world) would be Michael Jackson, who, on June 25th, died from cardiac arrest. The internet surged with fans downloading, watching, and listening to his music and videos, and web-sites had artistic tributes up on their main pages within hours of his confirmed death. I even recall going to fmylife.com and seeing, "Michael Jackson died. FML" Radio stations, television programs, and the world mourned his passing. Who didn't have their very own night of tribute, listening to his most popular songs or even watching the Pepsi commercial where he caught on fire (No? Just me?)?

While on the subject of music, who doesn't know Mary Travers? You don't you say? Of course you do! Who doesn't know the song, "Puff (The Magic Dragon)," (which does in fact, despite the many speculations of being a song about drug use, happen to be a song about a dragon)? In case there's still any confusion, Mary was one-third of a folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary (one of the most successful folk-singing bands of the 1960's). Sadly, after battling long and hard, she died of cancer on September 16th of this year.

Billy Mays, the pitchman selling you Orange Glow at 3:00 A.M., died June 28th of this year from heart disease. Billy Mays, best known as the guy basically yelling the stains out of the surfaces in his commercials. Of course I'm kidding, he was best known for his ads selling OxiClean. Possibly a bit unorthodox in his pitching but he got his point across and was, in my opinion, one of the best pitchman of all time. Prior to his death, Mays had signed with Taco Bell to film infomercial-style commercials for the food chain. Gidget (better known as The Taco Bell Dog -she died from a stroke July 21st of this year) would be rolling over in her grave if ever Billy had gotten the chance to best her.
