The Rio Boy’s and Girl’s basketball teams opened up their seasons with a tough loss in a double header at Cambria-Friesland.

 

The Girl’s played a hard fought game keeping it within single digits with a final score of 41-45. While the Boy’s having a rough night ended with a 44-52 loss.

The Boy’s team then hosted Lake Country Lutheran where senior guard Cole O’Brien went off going 9-9 from the field (5-5 from three point range). Cole ended the night with a career high 23 points and helping boost the Vikings with a 60-50 win. Next the Vikings hosted Pardeeville where senior forward Robbie Fugiel went 12-19 from the field and 2-5 from the charity stripe ending with a career high of 26 points. The Vikings won in overtime with a score of 62-52. The following day Rio traveled to Randolph to take on the rockets. The Vikings took a tough loss against a tough team with a final score of 31-67.

The Girl’s team opened up conference play with an impressive win over the Abundant Life Challenger’s. Sophomore Megan Petty led in scoring going 2-11 from the field and 10-10 from the charity stripe ending the night with 14 points. She was followed closely in scoring by Junior Chelsea Reierson, who ended the night with 13 points. The Lady Vikings look forward to hosting Horicon in their next game.
